It is against the law to mistreat an animal in our state!

​Wisconsin law 951.02 Mistreating animals.

No person may treat any animal, whether belonging
​to the person or another, in a cruel manner.
“Cruel” is defined as unnecessary and excessive pain
or suffering, or unjustifiable injury or death.

You can go to jail for animal cruelty in Wisconsin. Animal cruelty is, in many cases, a felony offense in the state, and anyone convicted of it can face up to 6 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

If you are unsure if a situation is abuse or neglect,
it is always best to report it to authorities.

If you feel an animal is being abused or neglected please call the Adam's County Sheriff's Department at 608-339-3304.  Unfortunately, ACHS does not have a Humane Officer and cannot assist in abuse cases other than caring for an animal that a deputy removes from a bad situation.  ​
