Found a Dog or Cat? Here's What You Need to Do

Dogs

If you find a stray dog please call the Sheriff Department's
non-emergency number at 608-339-3304. They will pick up the dog and bring him/her to our shelter.

Cats

Please call us at 608-339-6700 if you find a stray cat to talk with one
of our staff. Unfortunately, we are currently at maximum capacity for cats. We will collect the necessary information and add the cat to our wait list. A staff member will contact you as soon as we have an opening.

Cats who are aggressive are not accepted because we do not have the proper setup to safely care for them.

Wildlife

If you find an orphaned or injured animal out in the wild, please contact
the DNR at 608-339-3385. ACHS is not licensed to help wildlife.

Found Pet Report

Animal Abuse & Neglect

If you witness an animal being abused or neglected, please call the Adam's County Sheriff's Department at 608-339-3304.  Unfortunately, our shelter no longer has a Humane Officer and cannot assist in abuse cases other than caring for an animal that is removed from a bad situation.
